Born in 1959 in Issy les Moulineaux, lives and works in Paris, France.
For over twenty years, Philippe Chancel has been pursuing a photographic experiment at the intersection of art, documentary and journalism. Introduced to photography at an early age, trained in economics (Nanterre University) and journalism (CFPJ, Paris), he has exhibited at the Barbican Centre in London, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, C/O Berlin, the Open Eye Society Foundation in New York, the 53rd Venice Biennale, the Multimedia Art Museum in Moscow and the Rencontres d'Arles.
To coincide with the exhibition on the railings of the Jardin May-Picqueray (formerly Square du Bataclan), the 13onze15 association has published a catalog compiling the photographs and texts presented.
To mark the 20th anniversary of Lyon's photography center, Le Bleu du Ciel, Gilles Verneret, its director, revisits the photographers who have exhibited there and over time defined a certain line of documentary photography. This book highlights the creativity and plurality of the genre through the works of nearly 100 photographers, many of them French, but also from all over the world.
