Exhibition from January 17 to 20, 2019
at the new Melanie Rio Fluency gallery space on the Ile de Nantes
Opening on Wednesday January 16, 2019 at 6 pm
A multidisciplinary artist who graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts de Nantes in 2013, Ariane Yadan presents for the first time at Mélanie Rio Fluency an original series of self-portraits, functioning as an installation on the border between photography and sculpture.
The works are produced in such a way as to offer an almost hallucinatory experience of "double vision": images concealed in the photographs are revealed through an optical device, as the viewer moves...
Ariane Yadan never reproduces a face without allowing her obsessions to contaminate and subjugate it. Using photographic montage, make-up and optical effects, the artist offers an intimate vision and perception of altered states of consciousness and human life, evoking classical iconography, the history of representation and questions of gender.

For the opening, Ariane Yadan invites La Gouvernante, a creature of drag culture who works in the Nantes community.
The two artists explore the relationship between their respective practices of self-portraiture. A performance not to be missed!
La Gouvernante is a member of Usées Coutumes, a young collective dedicated to organizing queer events in Nantes.
