Born in Paris in 1972, Ambroise Tézenas graduated from the Vevey School of Applied Arts (Switzerland) in 1994. Based in London and then Paris, he worked as a photojournalist for the French and international press, traveling extensively in South-East Asia, Central and South America.
In 2001, he decided to devote himself to landscape photography, and began a long-term project on the city of Beijing, which was undergoing major changes on the eve of the 2008 Olympic Games.
His book Pékin, théâtre du peuple won the Leica European Publishers Award for Photography in 2006, bringing him international recognition. Translated into seven languages, this project has been exhibited many times in Europe and Asia, notably at the Rencontres d'Arles and the Kunsthal Museum in Rotterdam.
His work is regularly rewarded: in 2009, he received the Nikon Story Teller Award at the PDN Photo Annual (USA) for his photographs of Cuba, a report commissioned by the New York Times Magazine, and the Ohshot Award in 2018.
Ambroise Tézenas' work is part of the public collections of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, the Musée d'Art Moderne de la vile de Paris and the Musée Français de la Photographie de Bièvres.
Photographer and author, his latest monograph I was here, tourisme de la désolation, which explores the growing interest in places of tragedy in the light of the contemporary world, was published in 2014 as a joint French-English edition by Actes Sud and Dewi Lewis Publishing.
His work is regularly published in the international press, including the New York Times, AD Magazine, Vanity Fair or W Magazine, and appears in several collective works on the European landscape.
